If any needs me the first week of the new year, I'll be in Cancun being a Tourista

Check out this guy's expression... really

I feel like more
Tonight...I feel like more
(Deftones, Digital Bath)

I like how the song is slow... like waking up after a long nap, or how your mind slows down when you are up late talking to someone with fumbling english as things begin to melt away, again

I want, in the new year, to be RSS/ATOM syndicatable... I think I'll have to change my pretty formatting. (Any geeks out there have any recomendations or thoughts?)

if you can't have an orchid in your hands, if you can only look at a photograph, it should be in black and white...

Susan Sontag

I have decided Susan Sontag is a hero of mine. She passed away today.
Like guns and cars, cameras are fantasy-machines whose use is addictive

Who is watching who? :)
Browsing flickr is fun, although it seems that most people (probably including me most of the time) do not take very compelling photographs. I like this one though.

now I've been reading about Catholicism and schisms in the christian church, while hearing news about tidal waves and watching movies about mental struggles on cable (Manic, well cast with Zooey Deschanel and some others), and reading some more about writing as therapy

and as for music, you should look into
1. The Faint - Wet From Birth - Desperate Guys, Birth
2. Lambchop - the old matchbook trick

A very Pulp Fiction Christmas to you: Harvey Keitel as an elf is exactly what I would have planned if I had planned to make a puppet elf HK.

An ancient pond
A frog jumps in
Plop!
-- Basho (1644-94)

"In addition to being the supreme artist of haiku and renga, Basho wrote haibun, brief prose-and-poetry travelogues such as Oku-no-hosomichi (The Narrow Road to the Far North; 1689; Eng. trans., 1974), that are absolutely nonpareil in the literature of the world."

Q: Which is better: reading about Basho or being Basho? A: Plop!

I've been reading about new therapies that I think have some potential to build upon how the way many psychologists practice therapy, which sounds very adult of me ... but, to be honest, a quote from a comic is what I am actually pondering:
"Dreams are a part of the sum of each life's experiences, which is the only wisdom that matters."
-- The skeleton bird; SANDMAN #18: A Dream of a Thousand Cats
Another quote:
"Things need not have happened to be true. Tales and dreams are the shadow-truths that will endure when mere facts are dust and ashes, and forgot."
-- Dream; SANDMAN #19: A Midsummer Night's Dream

a layer underneath the skin
I can touch
thin bands of hair

dreadful beauty
gun shy delicateness
beneath a coat toned with earth

an urgency for understanding
or I am willful
amidst panic against a wall

then, a caress
eyes peaceful, tense
moments past

I am unthinking
connected to the night sky
never increasing

and challenged
our fears echo to each other's ears
until we slip alone back into our lives

I need a title, please title me...

Black Dog

Churchill's Black Dog: Thoughtful essay on how depression can lead one to great heights of accomplishment.

[Winston Churchill's] inspirational quality owed its dynamic force to the romantic world of fantasy in which he had his true being

Black Dog On My Shoulder lyrics:
There's a black dog on my shoulder again
Licking my neck and saying she's my friend

I went for a drive for an hour.
Spring sunlight, spring heat, winter wind.
Thoughts of patterns and being in a rut
and doing new things.

Good news related to school today: ask if you want to know

And I finally filled up my ipod-mini.
The last track I heard was The New Lyrics by Interpol, and it went:

I wish I could live free
I hope it's not beyond me
settling down it
takes time
one day we'll live together
and life will be better
I have it here yeah in my mind
baby, you know someday you'll slow
baby, my heart's been breaking

I gave a lot to you
I take a lot from you too
you slave a lot from me
guess you could say
I gave you my edge

I can't pretend
I need to defend
some part of me
from you
I know I've spent some time a-lying
I can't pretend
I don't need to defend
some part of me from you
I know I've spent some time
a-lying

You're looking alright tonight
I think we should go
You're looking alright tonight
I think we should go

From my roommate:

I changed my e-mail address again because I'm not Jewish anymore; and it turns out that I'm English instead of Irish (but still Scottish). I also found out that my ancestors fought in the revolutionary war, and one of them may have been a 1-star general. Cool, heh? What's not so cool is that they were also tobacco growing slave owners from North Carolina.

Therefore, I truly suck.

I completed my resume today. The list of projects, manuscript drafts, conferences, and workshops I have completed this semester is longer than what was already on my vita.

No wonder I am tired.

But I want something good to happen to me. I am ready. I am waiting. I am here.

Jen Natalie Michelle said to me once...

I know it's easy to blame yourself and hold yourself responsible for things.....you are very introspective and that is a blessing in so many ways, but it can also be a double edged sword. You just have to consciously remember that you are important to many people, and you inspire a lot of people. When you think of it like that, it's easier to appreciate the beauty and pain of how you think...and where it takes you.
Right now I just want to rest under the water, in warmth, in a cocoon. And wake up to something unexpected. To something simple.

All that is not eternal is eternally useless -- C.S. Lewis

Read about who censors your television shows (bored parents) and how the internet is partyly responsible via "a more than 2,400 percent increase in online activism".

Seems that some people would rather complain than change the channel or actually pay attention to what their children watch. ::sigh::
