Quotes of passion: "All I do is act on my passions and they call it sin.
All I do is tell the truth and they call me a hypocrite.
All feel is pain and sorrow and they call it love.
All I do is pour my heart out to empty pages and they call it poetry.
Benito Behar"

To absorb (self-reminder): You Shall Know Our Velocity (book), Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (perhaps a book), Cinema Paradiso (#99 best film of all time) -- anyone want to rent it with me?, Now Here is Nowhere by The Secret Machines (music), and TV on the Radio (music).

Rather strangely, I just now notice that Jeff just saw Cinema Paradiso. Read his scathing critique here. Hm, I better still see it for 'meself.

Guns N Roses - Locomotive Lyrics

Tuesday, July 27

Locomotive by 'Guns:
I'm taking time for quiet consolation
In passing by this love that's passed away
I know it's never easy-
So why should you believe me
When I've always got so many things to say
Calling off the dogs a simple choice is made
'Cause playful hearts
Can sometimes be enraged
You know I tried to wake you-
I mean how long could it take you
To open up your eyes and turn the page ...
Love's So Strange

cho
You're chocolate. You're the old soul type, people
feel that they have known you their entire
life. Many often open up to you for they view
you as thoughtful and trustworthy. Although
people trust you, you have a hard time trusting
them. You prefer to keep your feelings bottled
up inside, or display them very quietly. It is
alright to open up every once in a while.

I just finished 1984. Never having read it myself, I am quite impressed. I thought Brave New World was a more engaging story, but 1984 seems a bit more... true. But it still leaves me, as of yet, still malleable politically. I am aware that I disagree with most political arguments I hear, but that does not translate into having a well-defined political "agenda" of my own.

Perhaps my recent instinct to increase meditation has something to do with ...

In any case, 1984 put me in a certain perspective when I read an email forwarded to me: "Any thinking person must now see that the vast gap between living standards of the West and those of poor countries cannot be allowed to continue, and that mass human rights violations anywhere are a danger everywhere."

It seems to me that globalization just translated into class struggles between countries instead of inside them. "The rich get rich... so the bible says, and it still is news." But God bless the child that's got his own.

Same old story? Sociopolitically... ah, I digress. Back to vacation-->

"By da way, if any of u ever gets to do business wiv Sir Ronald, a word of hadvice - don't mention de size of his feet....him iz well sensitive about it. Me mate Dave hactually met him, and he said dat even tho him may seem like he's always smiling, dere's a sadness in de eyes...coz of dem feet. All de money in de world - and science still can't do nothing. Maybe dat's something dat some of u M.I.T. nerds can fink about innit."

I am unsure why, but I love robot/emotion art/comics. Something about the juxtaposition of the absurd and the real.

p.s. Your recommended counterculture for the month: "da Ali G show"; watch it if you have HBO or rent season 1. It's as quality as a robot being heartbroken.

Judge spends taxpayer money ordering honor-student can keep his mullet: "'It must be emphasized this case is not about fashion or fashion preferences; it is about the exercise of power and whether that excercise is arbitrary and capricious".

Earlier today I overhear a conversation: "What do they say when they go get a haircut, I'd like a 'mullet'? " -- "No, I think they have the mullet already." By that logic, though, the hair grew in in mullet form, originally. Now that's creepy.

Embrace - Come Back To What You Know
Come back to what you know,
Take everything, real slow,
I wanna lose you but I can't,
Let you go.

I usually over-think song lyrics, and don't really enjoy songs when the message doesn't fit with me. This song, it's meaning in total doesn't fit me. But I really love the way it... I think I put my own message on top of it. But do not have the words for it. I haven't written anything really important in awhile. Come back to what you know. I just wonder what that is. I leave for Vermont on Tuesday. Trees that reach into the sky. Water and waves. Quiet. Leaves. Porches and family dinners. But, I will miss Austin.

mariachikita's: Marie got a blog. Sweet. Hennyway, uhm, so now that people I like are blogging, I want to add comments to their sites and all... except they are flung across the blogosphere (I know, I hate that word too) in places like Livejournal and Xanga (I know, I hate that word too). And I want to link to their stuff... or whatever, more easily-like. Hm. I wish there was something easier than hyperlinks... can't I just click one thing? Gr. Andrew, solve this for me.

Jeff Brilliance regradring Harry Potter, I know I am very late in reading it: "But regarding Harry, the character, the one thing I have yet to understand is this: every staff member of Hogwart's is aware that Harry's pretty much destined to become a very, very powerful wizard, yeah? And that people are almost assuredly looking to kill him. So why do they keep sending him back to the same horribly abusive foster-family year after year? Has Dumbledore never read a single paper on nature versus nurture? I mean, have they never thought of the possibility that adult Harry might go balls-out revenge-flick on muggles everywhere because as a youth he was LOCKED IN A CLOSET?!"

This guy walks into a pub and half his head is a big orange. He says: 'I'll have a pint of lager, please.' And the barman says: 'Excuse me, I couldn't help noticing, but half your head appears to be a big orange.' And the boy goes: 'Yeah, had that for a while now.'

So the barman says: 'How did that come about, if you don't mind me asking?' And the boy says: 'I was in this old junk shop when I found a lamp and when I gave it a rub this genie appeared.

He offered me the standard three wishes, and I said: 'For my first wish, I'd like every woman I ever meet to fall madly in love with me.' So the genie waves his genie hands and suddenly there's women looking at me. Then the genie says: 'What will your second wish be?' I said: 'I'd like a wallet with $1million in it, and I can never lose it, it can't be destroyed, and every time I spend any of the money, it'll be replenished.' And the genie says: 'Your wish is granted. Now, what will your third wish be?' So I said: 'For my third wish, I'd like half my head to be a big orange.'

Cold Feet: "The last-ever episode of Cold Feet was broadcast in the UK on 16th March, 2003. " Well, I don't think I've ever seen it, but it has an amazing sountrack, according to the internet. Hm. I mean, Pulp, Fatboy Slim, Manic Street Preachers, Bobby McFerrin, Aphex Twin. Nice.
