David Foster Wallace interview: "All the things that my parents said to me, like 'It's really important not to lie.' OK, check, got it. I nod at that but I really don't feel it. Until I get to be about 30 and I realize that if I lie to you, I also can't trust you. I feel that I'm in pain, I'm nervous, I'm lonely and I can't figure out why. Then I realize, 'Oh, perhaps the way to deal with this is really not to lie.' The idea that something so simple and, really, so aesthetically uninteresting -- which for me meant you pass over it for the interesting, complex stuff -- can actually be nourishing in a way that arch, meta, ironic, pomo stuff can't, that seems to me to be important. That seems to me like something our generation needs to feel. "

I read Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut for a second time of late. And I think there may be more people on my team, in my karass, than I used to think. I wonder if my team is winning. If you haven't read Cat's Cradle, then this makes no sense to you. I think new people are not good or bad. It is just that some of them are playing for your team, and some are not. Some friends are not of your karass, and some will always be. Are you with me?

And I still write late at night. When my laptop comes it may happen more.
piano keys
softened skill
introductions
and heavy eyes
and I still resist
tonight's rest
by the water's edge

I found the word for my mood: dissatisfied. With some educational events.
Nada Surf speaks to me tonight:
we're stuck in our own paths, and it's the way it always lasts, but i need something more from you
When I'd rather be hearing whispers of:
pense à moi la prochaine fois que
tu entendras la rumeur des vagues

Russian scientists argue for the healing power of a kiss: "Our saliva contains the most bacteria. About 80% of them are the same in all people. Nearly 20% of them are unique in every human being. Upon mixing with other particles in the partner's mouth, they trigger various reactions of microorganisms. As a result, this gives one's immune system an impulse to form certain antibodies. Scientifically speaking, this process is termed cross-immunotherapy." Yes, scientifically speaking.

Excited about life today. Studied and all. Thinking of summer warm days...

Good quote from ameliathegreat.com: "Music's drug-like qualities are proportional to it's loudness (to an extent). "

I hope my brother won't mind this, but I want to share with the friends who read my blog and strangers worldwide who came here on accident what kind of humor runs in my family:
"90% of the problems at work are fixed by either having the user restart their computer or quickly googling for the answer. It's kinda scary how invaluable google is.
Wait... is invaluable the word I am looking for? Inflammible means flammible! What a country!
But seriously, doesn't invaluable mean more than valuable? Like infamous means more than famous?
Or do I just use those wrong? You see, I'm not really smart."
Later:
Apparently in in latin means "not"
So invaluable means not that it has no value, but that it's value is calculatable. Because in that sense (in)valuable is not a description of the item, it's a description of the process of evaluating the item. So invaluable actually means inevalutionable
Infamous is trickier. "Causing or deserving infamy." But infamy must stem from infamous and not the other way around. "Having an exceedingly bad reputation; notorious" is better. But in this case it seems the "in" lends moral judgement to "famous" which makes no sense. So we need to figure out what the Latin "in" means. Because "un" means not. So what does "in" mean. The closest I can find for a prefix is in meaning "thoroughly." So infamous is thoroughly famous. Invaluable is thouroughly valuable.
But that makes no f'n sense. Here's better info: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=in-
So in actually means un which is also en (entangle). So unpossible is correct! Hmmmmmm. In means thoroughly and not and opposite of.
Inorganic means not organic
Invaluable means impossible to value
Infamous means the opposite of famous
Stupid english! And latin! ...

A softer world: For the internet comic geek in you. A highlight according to Warren Ellis and myself from the site:
"When the aliens arrive,
and kill our leaders
I will write them a letter that says
'what about their kids?' "

From an email forward from my mom: "Because I'm a man -
When I catch a cold, I need someone to bring me soup and take care of me while I lie in bed and moan. You're a woman. You never get as sick as I do, so for you this isn't a problem."
I like the humor in that I was thinking a few weeks ago about wanting soup that wasn't too hot. I like being stereotypical sometimes.
