Vast Acting Living Intelligence System

Saturday, January 31

Dearest reader,
tonight I found out I actually know someone who has read VALIS, one of the most interesting books I've ever read, and the prequel to the book that enthralled me the most in my adolescence, The Divine Invasion, in which an average chap has to smuggle in the Savior to earth, because earth is under the control of illusion, the Roman Empire, and evil in general. The novel ends with a nod to the redeeming power of accepting ordinary love, ordinary beauty, and human averageness. I may be reading too much into it...in a way, or I just may see the extraordinary in the mundane. Somehow, I don't think this book could be described as mundane, however.

From a PKD fan blog:"Phillip K. Dick's books make me stop being afraid of my own insanity. The weird thing is that they do it by scaring the crap out of me first."

Maybe I will reread it, and listen to Everything Must Go or the Everlasting, by the Preachers. But not today. Soon, to read the Magus. Maybe a summer project... ?

from Town Lake to Chipotle, I should make that trip again...

Monday, January 26

I have given a name to Austin's newest sky adornment, [the fortress of solitude]. It reminds me of Superman's arctic hideaway. But it is also very beautiful. I have a new love in the night sky.
A sleepy cheers to you and yours,

Scuba Steve Sympharmonic

Saturday, January 24

I'd like to meet someone who I could, in good conscience, nickname Scuba Steve. I think it takes a lot to earn a good nickname, and it is not something you can just have, you must give to receive. The Austin Symphony was excellent tonight. Uplifting... beautiful. I was sleepy, but excited. Choice!

lyric variations on a theme of someone else's life

Last night I had the strangest dream
I sailed away to China in a little rowboat to find ya
And you said you had to get your laundry cleaned
Didn't want no one to hold you, What does that mean?
-Break My Stride

I could be your carpenter, and you could be my twinkling north star o'er the desert sky.

sunday = church

recently been desiring in some ways to start going to church again. i have been contemplating it from sociological, scientific, & religious points of view. i think it is hard to be in psychology and be spiritual at times because so many people are realists and atheists. i do think that most separations of government, religion, science, education, etc. are pretty artificial. i fail to see a good reason why i can't be a person who worships God, tries to help people in my occupation, engages in tight scientific enquiery, enjoys scotch, bourbon, and beer, and wants to make love central in his life. the religions that caught on (throughout 'history') focus on illusion, desire, and sin... synonyms... the same trapdoor into sticky unhappiness.

am i going to church tomorrow though?
i'll nurse my hangover and think this through more. but as days go by... one thing i know begins to stand out. i do believe that...

My Milkshake brings all the... uhh, like garden..., yards, something.

Why do they have to make normalish looking girls look slutty to be "attractive" (a.k.a. sell magazines....) ... and why do they have to put Mick Jagger on their t-shirts?! I just don't understand. I am not being sarcastic here, I really would be interested in an explanation or theory.

Mrs. Robinson

Thursday, January 15

Dear friend,
Rent: Hard Eight by Paul Thomas Anderson (of Magnolia fame). I did. I recommend.
And don't get on your blog or livejournal at 1am just because you don't want to get up in the morning and go to school. That seems dumb. Do as I say, not as I...

Snakes Eating Blogs

What do you get when you comment on a blog that commented on your blog about how often blogs spend their e-xistence citing other blogs? You get annoying. But then you go to google and find a better image of a snake eating itself then the other blog used, and you are happy. I wonder if any other blogs besides Jeff's and fuzzyblacksweater would interest me. I bet there is a way to find out. I bet I won't do it. Back to Austin tonight, with a pithy stop in Norman to see the OUers/Happy Hour crew, and drink piss-water beers.
Cheers,

Friday, January 9

Why can't I read We Can Remember it for you Wholesale by Philip K (Dick) without hearing Arnold's voice as Quail? I haven't even seen Total Recall for YEARS! A recent A.S. quote for you:
"It doesn't matter if you are a Democrat or Republican, if you're young or old, what the racial thing is, nothing matters to me." : from boreme
Wait, one more: "As much as when you see a blonde with great tits and a great ass, you say to yourself, 'Hey, she must be stupid or must have nothing else to offer', which maybe is the case many times. But then again there is the one that is as smart as her breasts look, great as her face looks, beautiful as her whole body looks gorgeous, you know, so people are shocked." Oh, to be as smart as your breasts look. I don't know if I could stay sane if I were a member of the fairer sex.

a bit dark and tricky

Highlight of my insomnia night from Ultramodern (the blog I read most oft):
"Have you ever run into an old girlfriend six months after a good, animosity-free break-up? And were you surprised to find that she'd become a crack-whore? And worse, the guy tricking her out was your brother?
Okay, me neither."

if God is in the TV then Satan's on the radio

Limp Bizkit (howeveryouspellthat) covered the Who's Behind Blue Eyes, and although I will admit to singing along to it, they really didn't "make it theirs". If you are going to do someone else's song, you really really should make it your own. Well, if you like the song, buy a the Who compact disc. The LB version seems like he is singing about Britney Spears (BS) when the lyric comes along "No one know how to say that they're sorry and don't worry, I'm not telling lies". But Hell people, that lyric is supposed to be directed towards God. The song is the Who's 'Sympathy for the Devil'. The original song makes me wonder if Lucifer's confession here is a lie. Who is the man behind blue eyes? Hmm... who could it be? Could it be... SATAN? (Sorry, Church Lady reference could not easily be avoided). In the original song, it is. In the LB version, I'd have to say, Fred Durst? ::sigh:: I am attempting to rebel against culture merely because I can't sleep... I'm not telling lies.

A real beautiful song lyric for you... I will let you guess who wrote it.

My body feels so good and I still sing a razor line everytime.
And when it comes to all night living
I know what I'm giving
I've got it all down to a tee
And it's free.

The song is "You Better, You Bet"

The Alamo

Thursday, January 8

It will be so good to be back in Austin soon. Bored out of my mind in Oklahoma (not really, but still), I looked up what is showing at the Alamo Drafthouse this month, ... and two weeks from tonight we have Transformers the Movie showing! Only in Austin can I head out of my place at 11:30pm, go to a theatre and see cartoons from my childhood, drink beer, and eat popcorn. Life, oh crazy life.

Dr. Pepsi

So skiing was grand. The highlight? Just missed an avalance that stopped all traffic in and out of Vail by 30 minutes. In other two sentence tid-bits (my specialty), check out This Guy who drinks only Pepsi, all the time, no water, no nothing else. Oh, the dedication! I love it! You know, I can't even tell when I am being sarcastic anymore... ;/
