stop counterculturalism now

A Graduate Student Avoiding his Ph.D., Being Productive,
or Being Creative and Useful in Any Real Way...

Saturday, July 24

I just finished 1984. Never having read it myself, I am quite impressed. I thought Brave New World was a more engaging story, but 1984 seems a bit more... true. But it still leaves me, as of yet, still malleable politically. I am aware that I disagree with most political arguments I hear, but that does not translate into having a well-defined political "agenda" of my own.

Perhaps my recent instinct to increase meditation has something to do with ...

In any case, 1984 put me in a certain perspective when I read an email forwarded to me: "Any thinking person must now see that the vast gap between living standards of the West and those of poor countries cannot be allowed to continue, and that mass human rights violations anywhere are a danger everywhere."

It seems to me that globalization just translated into class struggles between countries instead of inside them. "The rich get rich... so the bible says, and it still is news." But God bless the child that's got his own.

Same old story? Sociopolitically... ah, I digress. Back to vacation-->
